In recent years Australian wildlife populations have been devastated by extreme weather events including fires and floods.
In response, VBB has partnered with WWF-Australia to offer a wildlife training and resource package for veterinary clinics in identified regions to better prepare veterinary professionals in the capture, treatment and care of wildlife. Together we are working to:
- Increase veterinary volunteers who receive training in wildlife care.
- Increase vets who are licensed to dart and capture wildlife.
- Provide vets with the capacity to safely enter emergency situations such as firegrounds.
- Provide the necessary resources, such as darting equipment and a mobile triage unit, to deliver emergency care where it’s needed.
These skills will be important for members of our Australian Veterinary Emergency Response Team (AVERT), the nationwide database of veterinary professionals ready to be deployed during natural disasters and disease outbreaks.
