Taronga wildlife training

Applications for Semester 2, 2024 open 3 June 2024.

Applications for Semester 2, 2024 open 3 June 2024.

VBB is seeking veterinarians, vet nurses, and final year veterinary students to join Taronga’s wildlife training course.

Why should I participate in the Taronga training and register as an AVERT volunteer?

  • To acquire knowledge and skills which will enhance your ability to provide appropriate and often life-saving care to sick and injured wildlife.
  • To become part of the AVERT community of veterinary professionals, willing to volunteer their skills to assist in response to natural disaster.

The first 20 people to complete the course and register for AVERT will receive one of our much sought-after “Team VBB” t-shirts and 12 months complimentary membership of VBB.

This course includes an online component (20 CPD points), and an optional practical workshop delivered in NSW, QLD or VIC (12 CPD points).

Places are limited. Applicants from WA, NT, and TAS are encouraged to apply.

VBB is also sponsoring select candidates to undertake AIIMs Basic Awareness training

Select candidates will be given the opportunity to undertake the ‘Course in the Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System (AIIMS) – 22463VIC‘.

As VBB AVERT only deploys to partner agencies within State Government emergency response frameworks, an understanding of AIIMS is a highly valued tool that will ensure volunteers can efficiently slot in and support official response teams in times of crisis.

This training is a full-day virtual session with mandatory pre-readings provided.

More info can be found here.

Candidates applying to VBB’s training cohort (above) will be able to register their interest on their application form.

Individuals who are not part of our Taronga cohorts, or previously graduated candidates can register their interest by contacting us.
