With outreach work to local villages

Te Are Manu is a charity vet clinic located on the tropical island paradise that is Rarotonga, Cook Islands!

Volunteers will see a varied caseload including routine consultations and afterhours emergencies, basic trauma management, simple orthopaedic procedures and a high volume of spey and neuter surgeries. There is often work with the Ministry of Agriculture for livestock cases too.

The clinic is very well-equipped with gas anaesthesia (isoflurane and oxygen generators), dedicated surgery room (with air-conditioning!), X-ray machine (digital), dental equipment, on-site kennels for hospital in-patients, IV fluid pumps, and a well-stocked pharmacy.

Volunteer deployments can involve clinical work only, or can be combined with outreach work depending on availability and timing.

Aitutaki and other outer islands

Spey clinics are run in the Pa Enua (Outer islands) with the support of VBB. These trips involve high volume desexing and suitable for experienced veterinarians who are able to perform desexing procedures on dogs, cats, goats, and pigs (castration only for pigs and goats) without inhalation anaesthesia.

Outreach work is available to volunteers who can commit to a minimum of 4 weeks. Volunteers will join an 2-team roster, where they will alternate between clinical work in Rarotonga and travelling to provide veterinary services to an outer island.

In addition to providing vet care to owned animals, these outreach trips involve feral cat population management via high volume desexing.
