Bhutan Animal Rescue and Care (BARC) is seeking support in strengthening the team, which provides medical care and dog sterilisation services. BARC has recently relocated to Tshaluna valley, and are in the process of constructing new facilities. In the meantime they have a small clinic and patient building from where they work, as well as dog pounds and macaque rehabilitation facilities.

At present BARC has one veterinarian, one nursing staff and recently recruited fresh graduates in B.Sc Animal Sciences from the College of Natural Resources. They require additional professional support in veterinary medicine for provision of (mostly small) animal care, dog sterilisation and in training new graduates. This is especially relevant as BARC aims to expand its animal care and sterilisation programs in the coming years.

BARC is seeking volunteers to:

  • Provide medical services to sick and injured animals at the BARC rescue centre and in situ;
  • Provide dog and cat sterilisation services;
  • Develop treatment protocols and provide (on-the-job) training.

BARC’s mission is to promote the welfare of animals, and to contribute to a society where a healthy and happy coexistence between animals and humans is the norm.

All volunteers to Bhutan must be vaccinated against rabies.

Preferred: Vets and nurses with a minimum of 5 years experience. Experience working/volunteer in developing countries is a bonus.
